Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've all got authority problems. But we can't have chaos?!? Below you will find all the rules you need to know in order to make the most out of your Pop Culture League. Read carefully and form your strategies!
League Structure Everyone playing in the league is playing for points. You earn points by answering questions correctly. The more you know the better you will do. All-Star Pop Culture differs from your average Pub Quiz by creating cumulative points over a "season". Points are totaled over a multi-week season to determine who is the best Pop Culture trivia team. A $10/team fee is collected, with 50% going to the nightly prize pool, 25% going to each division's winner, and 25% going to the Championship prize. All money paid by teams is available for the teams to win.
The Season – Teams of up to 6 players will compete over the season of qualifying game nights. Points are cumulative over the season. The format for the season of qualifiers is the same as your average Pub Quiz, where all teams answer the same questions at the same time, trade sheets and grade the answers. Teams must use a minimum 1 player from a previous night of current season to use the team name (and accumulate points under that team name). Each night will have the following format:
Every Category will fall into 1 of 5 Genres: Movies; Television; Music; Personalities; Ephemera
Each round will be comprised of questions from 1 single Category. Categories can be general (ie: Oscar Winners), or very specific (ie: TV High Schools)
Each night will have 5 rounds of 10 questions each
Teams receive 1 pt. for each correct answer in a round (no negative points for answering incorrectly)
Half-time (between round 3 & 4) will have a Multiple-Choice question worth 10 pts (also no negative points for answering incorrectly)
After round 5 there will be a “Super 6” Round. This round's 6 question vary in the amount of points each is worth (see below), up to 21 points (negative points for wrong answers!)
The Final Five – The #1 ranked teams from each Division according to the standings at the close of the season will be invited to compete in a Final Five Quiz in the post-season, for the 2 Championship slots. In addition, the 2 teams with the next highest scores across all Divisions will be invited to the post-season as 'Wild Card' slots. Teams are comprised of up to 6 players, 2 of which MUST have played a minimum of 6 games throughout the season.
the 5 teams will compete in a 4 round quiz
Each round will be comprised of 10 questions from 1 single Category.
Teams receive 1 pt. for each correct answer (no negative points for answering incorrectly)
The teams with the 2 best scores after 4 rounds of play will move on to the Championship immediately following the Final Five (tie-breakers will be used to determine winners).
Teams traveling from Divisions outside of Seattle will be provided with hotel accomodations, but travel expences will be covered by the teams themselves.
The Championship – The 2 winning teams from the Final Four compete for the Season Championship. Teams must use the same players from Final Five or forfeit the Championship. Format will be head-to-head competition:
The team with the higher score from the Final Four round will elect to receive questions first or last
The Championship will consist of 2 halves, with 11 questions to each team in each half
Each team will hear their question and have 30 seconds to submit a correct answer as a group
If the team cannot answer correctly in the alotted time, the opposing team has 10 seconds to offer a correct answer for a "steal"
Teams receive 3 points for correctly answered questions, and 1 point for a steal.
Teams will receive a list of 24 categories at the beginning of each half, from which all questions will be asked. All categories will be chosen from ones that were used throughout the qualifiers in the season.
Opposing Team will get to choose the category the receiving Team will answer from for each question.
Once a category is used, it is no longer in play and cannot be used again, thus creating an offensive/defensive strategy for each team’s category selection process.
In the second half, Teams will have an optional “multiplier”. Multipliers will double the amount of points a team can earn. Each team will have 1 multiplier available for use on any of the 11 questions they will receive in the second half.
If a team chooses to use their Multiplier, they do so after they hear what category has been chosen for them by the opposing team. If they answer incorrectly and the opposing team steals the question, the multiplier is in use and will increase the steal points for the opposing team.
Team with the highest score at the completion of the the second half is declared Season Champions. Tie-breaker questions will be used if necessary to detrmine the winner.

"Super 6" Round & Hint Each week of the qualifying season will feature a Super 6 round at the end of the quiz. The Super 6 round will feature 6 questions from a particular category. The 6 questions will increase in difficulty and how many points they are worth. There will also be a hint released each week that will give some insight to the answer.
The Genre and Category for each week's Bonus question will be given with the Weekly Hint on our blog and posted on this site.
The hint will be posted within 24 hours of the previous week's event (usually when the scores are posted).
The hint can take the shape of text, a photo/image, audio, a movie clip, or even a link.
Each of the Super 6 questions increase in difficulty and point total. Question 1 will be on the easier side of the difficulty scale and is worth 1 point, while Question 6 will be more difficult, but worth 6 points if answered correctly.
Teams have a choice as to answering a specific question or not. If teams answers a question correctly, they will earn the amount of points that question is valued.
Teams answering a question incorrectly will lose the amount of points that question is valued.
Teams may also opt to not provide an answer all at for any of the Super 6 questions. Not providing an answer will give the team zero points for that particular question.
